Palmer Wastewater Treatment Plant
Location: Palmer, AK
CRW provided structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services, in addition to surveying services, for an update of the City of Palmer WWTP. CRW handled power, lighting, and controls design, including the necessary controls and power supply for the facility’s air handling unit, and contributed to the design of a vault ventilation system used to mitigate a hazardous classification condition. This project features a 1.0 MGD moving bed bioreactor (MBBR) plant, and a new, 42-foot by 82-foot pre-engineered control building. CRW designed various buried concrete tanks, including the MBBR, two circular clarifiers, a sludge pumping vault, and other site structures. The tanks were designed as “watertight” environmental structures in accordance with ACI 350, with depths ranging from 13 to 25 feet below grade and requiring technical concreting methods. CRW also provided support during construction administration.
